what is the best way of getting a coin appraisal?
I live in Minnesota and I sent pictures of my coins ( gold @ 1/2 dollar indian head coin, 9 liberty head nickles from 1902-1907 and two mercury dimes 1941 & 1945) for a free coin appraisal to Midwest mint in Minneapolis, MN. Well, the man told me that he’s interested in my coins and that I should send them to him for a better look. And that if he likes them, then he will send me a check. And if he doesnt like them then he will send them back and tell me the appraisal.? I”m not sure if this is how an appraisal is done? Should I ? SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY..Thanks!!
oh.. i meant 2 1/2 dollar gold indian coin
The Mercury dimes are worth over $1 each and the Liberty head nickels are worth about 50 cents each. The gold coin is the only thing of value. It is worth about 1-1/2 to 2 times bullion value or over $200. Mail in appraisals typically net low offers. I recommend finding a coin dealer in the phone book in your area or going to a coin show.
