I have a Troy Aikman 24kt gold overlay coin does anyonoe know what it is worth?
The coin has a certificate of authenticity and a picture. The coin is just his face with his number and signature in the bottom right corner. The picture has Photomint and limited addition on the bottom left corner. It also states 38 of 2500 made.
It depends on if it’s .999 silver underneath and the weight of that silver, or if it’s gold over bronze. There is hardly any gold to speak of in gold plate. Gold is one of the easiest metals to work because of its softness and a little of it goes a long way. For medallions of this size (everyone calls them coins but technically, coins are money issued by governments), you would need only a few cents worth of gold.
So forget about gold making it worth any more than what’s underneath. For the bronze medallions, there’s not much value, but the collector value is somewhere between $5 – $10, possibly more to an Aikman collector that hasn’t been able to find one. I know that they were originally sold for quite a bit more than that.
If it’s .999 silver, it’s much better for you because of the huge run-up in silver prices. These were usually half-ounce or one-ounce size, and there is a small collector premium over the value of the silver. A one-ounce would go in the $30 – $40 range, and a half-ounce, $15 – $20.
#38 is an early striking and may be worth a few extra dollars.
